Central American Ministry Update

Due to the pandemic, workers were not able to visit the members and truthseekers in the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Guatemala for the last two years (2020-2021). Although some online services were conducted during this time, many of the plans and momentum from pre-pandemic times were disrupted. However, thank God that beginning in 2022 we have been able to resume the missionary trips and strive anew.

Four trips have been made to the Dominican Republic this year – in February, June, September, and November. Many of the local Dominican members are aging and facing health issues. While their faith may be strong, more support will be needed to build up the next generation and sustain evangelical work.

During the pandemic, there were a handful of Chinese members who moved to the Dominican Republic. Overall, the active Chinese members remain fairly stable in their faith. They are still awaiting government permission to remodel the building they bought in Santo Domingo three years ago. Workers from the US will continue to support them with online Sabbath messages about twice a month.

During the pandemic, the US continued to support the Sunday night online Bible Studies in Mexico City for Chinese members. In 2022, five trips have also been made to Mexico to pastor the Chinese members. One short-term goal is for the members to register with the government and also find a more suitable worship location in order to aid evangelism. In July, we initiated an online Sabbath sermon program – US workers will deliver Sabbath messages twice a month. A trip to outreach to local Mexicans was also made in September. This year, two trips have been planned so far – in March and October.

As for Guatemala, two trips were made in March and September. Though small in number, the TJC family that is in Guatemala has made many connections with friends and truthseekers, so there are a lot of opportunities to evangelize.

As Jesus said, “the harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few” (Mt 9:37). Let’s continue to pray for these ministries and the kingdom of God in Central America.
