Brief Singapore Ministry Update
In recent years, the church in Singapore has seen an increasing number of cross-border nuptial unions. This nudges us to think of a more global role we can play in our ministry. We became aware of the pitfalls of a “mature” church in the sense of aging workers, complacency, lack-lustre ministry with run-of-the-mill activities.
Full-time ministers form an important core of a vibrant church. In terms of succession, there has been no new enrollment into full-time ministry for more than a decade. Instead of just making calls on the pulpit to enrol for full-time ministry, we planned a 5-week mini “internship” commencing in May 2024.
On the hardware front, land-scarcity in Singapore poses a seemingly insurmountable challenge to the setting up of more church locations. Of our 4 churches, only two operate in self-owned properties designated for religious use. The other two, namely Sembawang and Serangoon, congregate at rented premises. We have yet to find a viable way to branch out and establish more churches in different parts of the country. Nevertheless, the Singapore Coordination Board remains determined to overcome the challenge, and fresh plans have been made to boost funding from all local churches so as to increase our options for church development.
Improvements on our internet ministry continue to make headway. New initiatives include:
- Instagram: Creation of the platforms; experimentation with posting and creating posts
- Videos: Experimentation with creating podcasts
- YouTube: More frequent uploads of sermons and choir presentations
- TJC Website Articles: Began drafting Q&A articles to bring traffic to our website.
